In the military, we often see very disciplined soldiers who make no mistakes. They are strictly obedient to all the commands they receive and their uniformity stands to show unity.
The church has gone ahead and called you and I the pilgrim church, or the church militant; and many people will think that being in the church is a matter of matching to orders, whether we like it or not. As the soldier is expected to get up and do training, so is the catholic expected to stop and stand at noon to recite the angelus ___ this is not the case.
Christ respects our freedom and leaves it entirely up to us to respond to his gentle commands. He guides our souls gently and walks at our pace. God does not want a forced self-giving but he loves a cheerful giver.’ (2cor 9:7) If we want to be perfect, we have to do more than the commandments. We have to go beyond the question, ‘ Is it a sin? Is it a must? What if I don’t do it, what will happen?
Altogether, our yes to God’s will and commands has to be a military yes. An undaunted yes. A yes without blemish. ‘He who takes the plough and looks behind is not worthy of me,’ says the Lord in Luke 9:62. once we dedicate ourselves to do God’s will through the teachings of the church we don’t look back. We obey cheerfully and with all our hearts.
Our mother Mary lived God’s will to the end . She’ll help to freely give God a MILITARY YES !
